Includes descriptions of the island, Peter Folger and other original landowners, how the land was divided, the arrival of the first Macy's on the island in 1659, history of the whale fishery, and history and customs of Native Americans on the island. Also includes lists of births, deaths and marriages, and timeline of the progress of the whale fishery.
